FAQ
General
What does being regulated mean?
We get asked this A LOT. Majority of people think that everyone carrying out injectable treatments are regulated by a governing body or local council. Unfortunately this is not the case. In 2017 the Scottish government made it law that medical pratitioners (doctors, nurses and dentists) have to be working from a regulated building to carry out aesthetic treatments. This means we have went through the Health Improvement Scotland (HIS) process to be regulated, and have passed their inspection so you know you are in safe hands when coming to Skin Story for your aesthetic treatments. We have met all their health and safety criteria, our clinical rooms are compliant with HIS regulations and we will continue to have audits and inspections so standards will never slip. It also means the public can contact Health Improvement Scotland if they were unhappy or concerned about a clinic or independent hospital. You can go onto Health Improvement Scotland website to check if a clinic is registered and regulated. www.healthcareimprovementscotland.org
Botox
Who can have botox?
You have to be at least 18 years old and a full medical consultation will be carried out to make sure you are suitable for this treatment. You cannot have botox treatment if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
How long before I see results?
Everyone is different, most people start seeing results within the first 5-10 days but you will always be invited in for a 2 week review appointment. By then we can assess the results and if needed add any additional injections.
How long does it last?
Again, everyone is different in how they respond to the botox and the severity of the lines we are treating. Generally results last 3-5 months. You must wait at least 12 weeks from initial treatment before having another Botox treatment.
Are there any side effects?
We are injecting the skin so there are always going to be risks such as bleeding, brusing and swelling although very minimal. You will be given aftercare advise to follow after your treatment.
Dermal Filler
Who can have dermal filler?
You must be at least 18 years old (ID will be required if your under 25). A full medical consultation will be carried out before any treatment to make sure you are suitable for treatment. You cannot have dermal filler treatment if your pregnant or breast feeding.
When will I see results?
With dermal filler treatment the results can be pretty instant! Things do need time to settle so we always say give yourself 2 weeks to see full results. This will allow the fillers time to integrate into the tissue and allow any swelling to settle.
Is it painful?
Everyone's perception and experience of pain is different so this is not a one fits all answer. However, we use the best products and up to date methods to administer these treatments and keep your discomfort to a minimum. We use prescribed numbing cream and the fillers also contain local anaesthetic to make the procedure as comfortable as we can.
How much filler do I need?
This is why a full consultation is so important! Everyone will have a different requirement and aesthetic goal. There are different fillers for different areas off the face and they vary in thickness. A filler that is used to provide more structure to the cheek area and mimic bone is going to be a lot thicker than the filler we use for a lip treatment. This is all discussed at consultation and how much product we think you will need to achieve the results you are looking for. This may mean we come up with a treatment plan over a few appointments and we can breakdown the cost doing it this way also.
